Ambiguity Poem by Bryan Taplits

Ambiguity

When I was young-
To young to relive-
I thought my life was set,
No battles ahead
No foes behind
No shivers
and no dread.
Back then growing up and getting old-
Was an easy ship to sail,
though "old is really no prize"-
For I wasn't worried; since I was in no hurry
So whenever I thought of it-
I was sure that I'd survive.
But now I'm on my deathbed
Viewing the cuts of my life
as some Netflix loom
I even see the spots
that the director should have cut-
In the scenes too long
or that ended too soon.
And now I wonder
"Did it all happen as I thought-
Was my film's cast really real-
and my friends really real-
And my enemies
really not?
Also, do the other characters of my life
see the film from their pew
differently than what I do-
If so, what now oh now should I do?
Well, it's too late to change my memories
So at least- apparently- I've won.
But just before I take my final breath
I wonder as I wonder…
And I puzzle and I wonder
And I wonder and I wonder-
Then I'm gone.
