I have a similar flower here that I call a surprise lily. the leaves grow in spring, die back in, and then the stalk grows 3 feet tall in just a few days during late August, producing a number of flowers on top. I never knew the seeds were poisonous, I also grow castor bean flowers. I just found out that its seeds are used to make ricin.
