You take the ancient metaphor of the torch, symbolizing the illumination spread by whatever cultural values it represents, like fair play, education, honest effort, excellence, and use it to comment on the time of transition. I admire the unadorned honesty of your description of grasping the power the torch confers - when you were younger. But now you willingly surrender that power to the next generation's representatives, no jealous hoarding of power. That's a clear signal to younger people: It's time for you to take responsibility. I was a teacher for 34 years and this poem has helped me understand more deeply what I was doing with and for those kids for a generation.
