Always An Upside Poem by Bryan Taplits

Always An Upside

The graveyard stood as sentry-
with headstones meek and spare,
Eternally,
the tenants wander
Along its spacious fare.
No longer will he live nor breathe
As eyes see less to fuss.
More steadfast now ‘bove
last year's leaps-
Must evermore adjust.
Micro-plastics the doctor said
He ingested in all his food,
He enjoyed his diet so very much-
But now we're left to brood.
This funeral, I thought, so dreary
Casting such a funereal show
No longer would he be swagger sweet,
No longer in the know.
...But-yes-though he now is dead
And forever rests on Ebony's Shore,
At least now he is more flexible
Than he ever was before.
