Allow Me This Trespass Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Allow Me This Trespass

Don't give me trouble
Because I don't deserve trouble
And if life is like a bank
And you draw on available funds
And you suffer due to overdraft of funds
And you prosper due to healthy savings

Allow me this moral withdrawal
This moral failing
That sees me satisfying self with harmless other selves
Who seek tiny slices of pleasure from a larger tasteless pie

And if love is a constant tormenter
Faithless and inconsistent
Allow me this trespass in order to feel it again

Allow me this trespass
Because I am responsibility defined
Salary shared, bills paid, deadlines met

Allow me this trespass
Because I am not a serial sinner
A reluctant practitioner of addictive hedonism

And allow me this trespass
Because I am alive
And what we do in the shadow of phony appointments and future goodbyes
Feeds us the fuel of sensual sustenance
