The title shocked me for a while. You know I' m a fan of Lionel Shriver, so I think I'll avoid the theme and say that this is a truely excellent work., You get through the message well, with carefully chosen words and the piece isvery well paced. love Denis Joe XX
This is powerful, Mary - but you nmeed to go to a level deeper than bitter sarcasm. This is the story of your life. It has the power to destroy you, and may already have partially done so. Now you muist go deeper, as poets do - to the place where you said No, I'm going to live my life despite this pain. And I'm not going to be anything like that. That is a poetry that teaches others how to live - which is what poets do.
Another good one, Mary. But, lest all this praise goes to your head.....PLEASE correct mother's to MOTHERS (its only plural!) .... Na-na-na-naa-na : -) H
Someone who was very important to me once said 'That Child Needs a Parent Transplant' Unfortunately we cannot choose our parents and only too often the Childhood is traded for Things of little or no value. We as parents have a responsibility to put out love to our Children and to not cease in finding the right way. Love Duncan
Most people have the idea that all Mothers must be loving. Sometimes the troubles in their own lives are taken out on the people nearest to them. This is quite often their own children. Thank God, its not the norm, but the exception. Your poem is a brave write, and proves one thing. Those behaviours, stay with 'us' the children forever. Thank you for sharing your talent. Kindest Regards Slim. x.
Exactly, Mary. EXACTLY! Nodding her head at your words, Gina.
I've done my share of booze and drugs. But I never had children of my own. A child to raise would have changed my whole life. like your poem Mary
Intense emotion here Mary. I'm with you all the way. Bless you for speaking out. Rusty
Mary, I like the way you used the expression 'their way', it fit perfectly. You make a strong point, as usual. Brian
