I love the sentiment of this poem. A good poem is one where the reader can bring his own story, feelings and sentiments and find them reflected in the words he is reading.

But ALL deserve to go and roam about their way Trusting and believing I love your stand on beliefs in this write It made me think about the cruelty tht is game hunting I enjoyed it!

conservation is a socially important subject and we humans have a past history for thousand years where their forefathers were hunting gatherers and lived in forests. However now the situation is different and we can adjust with the situation and hunting no more needed for our day to day life. But unfortunately the forests are dwindling and hunting still continues which a thriving business it is seen through the reports. Human conscience is needed to curb the menace and this poem resembles as a commitment for anti poaching and in that sense a very informative and nice poem.

I'm l00% with you on this issue, Colleen. I have never been a hunter or desired to be one. However, I have relatives who ARE avid hunters and they used to give me an earful if they even sensed I was being critical of them. I wasn't. I'd say LETS AGREE TO DISAGREE AND DROP THE TOPIC, and that would really set off one of my uncles. They were as convinced of the rightness of their position as we are of ours. And what is this situation called - STALEMATE. I remember an episode of NORTHERN EXPOSURE when the NY doctor is coerced into going hunting. He wounds a deer and it takes hours to die. He tells the hunters, IT'S NOT THE KILLING I CAN'T ABIDE. IT'S THE DYING. Exactly, the willful infliction of pain is something unworthy of human(e) beings.

But how long are they safe? Until the gun shoots them by a cruel poacher who sees only the monetary benefit from the body of the wonderful life. Very good poem.

My Stephen Gayford wildlife poems describe the animal predators as well as the human hunters. So even if all the human hunters stopped, the animals would still hunt each other.
