Alas - Αλίμονο Poem by Kostas Lagos

Alas - Αλίμονο

Rating: 5.0

A man of pride...

...Dreaming his throne...

......His fame, his glory.......

.........Meant to be a leader.........

............Alas, he was a complete idiot............

Άνδρας περήφανος...

...Το θρόνο του ονειρευόταν...

......Τη φήμη του, τη δόξα......

.........Ηγέτης γεννημένος.........

............Αλίμονο, ήταν εντελώς βλαμμένος............

I very poignant poem, a hubris lesson in putting too much power, in the hands of those unfit to lead, or incapable of leading well, to the level a country or nation leads. Shakespeare both taught and warned of this in his play 'King Lear'. It is good to read Kostas, a simple needed direct to the point poem, addressing a simple causes a simple solution.

I completely agree with the thoughts projected through this poem, Kostas. A proud man aspiring for wealth and status always, is a complete idiot. I enjoyed the style and framework of the poem as well.

Pride gets inflated, well depicted, yes, the problem with pride is its cut-off point.
