Ah! The Pride Of Oxford Poem by Matloob Bokhari

Ah! The Pride Of Oxford

AH! THE PRIDE OF OXFORD
In the classroom setting, pupils, sitting like stones,
Are staring at the teacher and board
In an atmosphere of lovelessness,
There is a graveyard-like silence all around.
Teaching obedience is the first law of class.
Teacher is talking, the mental slaves listening,
Never encouraged to think, doubt and reason.
Being told but not induced to discover.
Lesson is mechanistic, soulless, non-purposive.
Leading to a hemiplegics outlook, false awareness.
Harsh discipline is a pervasive feature of routine.
Budding flowers are subjected to a disgraceful dealing.
Instead of educating, like horses are being domesticated.
Instilling fear and enforcing ban on fancy.
With rod of sermons and flames of hell,
Their windows of minds are permanently closed.
Pale flowers slithering like maggots in darkness.
Truth is buried under debris of interpretations,
Or placed in topmost shelve just to pay respect.
Fearing its meaningful study may upset
Educational, theological, political statuesque.
In this vast intellectual desert,
The traders are in the grip of dogmas,
Suffering from mental inertia and intellectual decay,
‘The empty containers, once light givers, are out of step in the parade of thought
Are engaged in fathoming the depths of hell and heaven.

COMMENTS: AH THE PRIDE OF OXFORD
Deborah Elizabeth Lotus: the decline of civilization starts here...
Sand Tucker: This really struck a chord for me, Matloob. In twelve years of being taught by nuns I learned a lot but not to reason, not to think independently. That I had to learn in the 'school of hard knocks'. Excellent piece of work.
Michael Edward Clearman: Truth indeed...we are creating a culture of reasonless robots who understand more about hard drives than they do their own lives.
Karyn Walker: Such a complex, touchy subject this is brought to life in the lines you`ve penned. I agree with you even more. It is like this in the churches here in America. And I see your point! They pour this religious information in you and somewhat force you to agree totally when it is preached. I have experienced this first hand! This is an awesome write! And such a good point you made in this wonderful write!
Laura Grillo Laveglia: It has to be a hard career being a teacher! Your words are like an expensive tapestry. A pleasure and honor from the artist! ! ! Really good poem! ! I could see how a poem would be born.
Flora Vasconcelos: The return to the Age of Obscurity.
Michele Vizzotti-White: I totally understand what you are saying and i am not even a teacher! this is unfortunately too true of what is going on in the world.....brillinat writing i love the whole poem but especially. The traders are in the grip of dogmas,
Farzana Altaf: beautiful. As always... I look forward to your poetic endeavors..I know that they will be fascinating quality read.
Nancy Ndeke: Powerful write dear.
Okloho Solomon: Awesome
Lilian Ezegbulem: Magnificent
Sarfraz Naqvi: Simply wonderful brother.
Sania Zakir: Well penned Sir
Kevin M. Hibshman: Great work as always, my friend! ! !
Michele Vizzotti-White: Wild and vivid imagery :)
Rana Zaheer: Fabulous
Annie Hilwani: Excellent
Malik Humayun Awan: Stunning look
Syed Asghar: Sir urhonour of bhatiotsadaatreally we proud u r great honourable officer of pak air force
Shareef Abdur-Rasheed: Bhai Matloob Assalaamu alaykum warahmintulahiwabarakatu. This is a incredibly amazing piece. Really captures the essence of the no-sense method of miseducation that can only be intended to numb/discourage critical thought, creative thinking with depth and make clones who are in lockstep with ruler fiqures to never challenge or propose a threat but only accept. This is a intellectual lobotomy.
