Such a most beautiful poem about being old. This poem is truly unique! It starts immediately with the title AFTERNOON, this is meant metaphorically, afternoon and not morning, we KNOW that the poetess is not really old yet, just read the last stanza
And I'll forget the way of tears, And rock, and stir my tea. But oh, I wish those blessed years Were further than they be! . Oh, sweet lovely Dorothy, how cutest are thy words be.5 Stars full. Truly loveliest words ever said
THREE: Great Congratulations for the family and offspring of the honorable Dorothy Parker. For the vote a myriad of 10's. This is truly a true POEM, serious and yet I am laughing sardonically in the end, because of her subtile humor. Genius! Thank you so much Poem Hunter Team to have chosen this as TCPOTD.
TWO: those blessed years Were further than they be! Loveliest, very touching and yet with a tint of irony, typical for the poetess, but so very uplifting to read and....I have read a truly CLASSIC and CLASSY Poem. Such an excellent choice of POEM HUNTER and TEAM to choose this mesmerizing poem as CLASSIC POEM OF THE DAY!
ONE: Such a most beautiful poem about being old. This poem is truly unique! And l'll forget the way of tears, And rock, and stir my tea wow, it's lovely
Wonderful rhyme and rhythm and a sense of slowing down and lamenting, 'I'll forget the way of tears'
this makes me think of a poem i've yet to write—one where i present my view of longevity from my perspective as a young man. as an older man said to me when i was still just in my 50s, getting old ain't for sissies. parker does paint with her words a good picture for us. i particularly like, watch my cool and fragile hands lie light upon my lap. -gk
Now that's what you call a poem! Flowing and golden Reaching, Saying all it had to say Without your eyes closin'.
beauty and graceful stanza- And I'll forget the way of tears, And rock, and stir my tea. But oh, I wish those blessed years Were further than they be! every forgetting way of tears are blessed for years..........
What a beautiful poem about aging and loss. I think Ms Parker must be every man's poet for I have yet to find any emotion she ever portrayed that did not match my own...
And I will have a sprigged gown With lace to kiss my throat; I'll draw my curtain to the town, And hum a purring note.
Congrats for being chosen as The Modern Poet Of The Day, to the descents of Dorothy
