African Emancipation Day Poem by sookdeo manansingh manansingh

African Emancipation Day

Freedom atlas!
their voices have been heard
o the chains from their feet removed
they no longer will answer to the whip
finally the curse has been broken
life on the estate will remain a dream
never to be whispered and repeat

where sweat and blood of slavery lie

Children of Africa for too long
tortured and bruised by cruel
slavemaster's without any conscience
not even to listen to their cry
suffered the treachery and agony
without given a chance to be heard
of their terrible plight to burn
in the sun with broken hearts

O the God's from heaven
must have awaken by the sounds of fear

the spell of darkness will take over the canefield
where once barefooted the slaves walk

To a new beginning they will rise

a world of imagination to build on their own

to turn their backs from wicked and shallow minds

O mother Africa this bondage has been broken
lead us to walk the path of righteousness
and give us faith to heal our wounds

no more tears
.
the gateway of freedom has open our eyes

we pledge to restore peace in our lives
that our children with grow to have knowledge

to defend themselves and be equal to all
that the color of their skin will not deter them
to aim for the sky and to breathe freely
to escape the storm of illwill

and to enjoy the nectar of forgiveness
flowing with the coming of a new horizon
and to welcome the dawn of a new day

O children of discipline with humility strive to be peaceful
and eliminate the bygones of the past

let the drums of Africa be sound
to send a message to the world that
we are victorious to lift our heads high
and we are not ashamed for who we are

Mother Nature will not close her eyes

a brighter world lies ahead

the privilege to walk free

till the end of eternity
