I see that this poem of yours evoked a lot of response, Lorraine. There's no harm in being an armchair traveller. You can learn a lot and gain empathy for others. If you want some more images of Africa, you may like to read some of my poems such as Monkeys in the trees, The Crater, Tme-lapse safari and The Last Lioness.

Okoye, my poem was written for a charity project which hasn't quite reached fruition. As an artist and poet I write for myself and I write what I want then share it with others.I'm not commercialised yet.As far as travel goes I wish I could travel every where but you see I can research any subject and write about it if I choose to.I have never seen a unicorn and I wrote about one.I've never traveled across the Rainbow Bridge but i can imagine what the after-life is like..I know something of the history of Africa but I am curious about something: did all the tribes speak the same language?

Its good you said you have never been to africa....and i think you should plan a trip. And please if you havent been to africa...I think you should not write anything about a place you dont know and never been to. The news media is so negatively skewed on africa..potraying us as hungry and babaric people....guess what...ITS A PURE LIE....there are people here that are more comfortable than most people in USA and Europe will ever be. And we also have students here that knows so much about europe and european culture and some are even more American than some American. Yes there are places torn by wars and by hunger...but where in the world isnt. Africa used to be a peaceful and disciplined continent where the diginity of man is upheld till the coming of Europeans...there are the ones that introduced corruption and massive and widespread war and hunger....you should read Things Fall Apart...by Chinua Achebe...he is very popular and he teaches in the USA...I think after reading it, you will get a picture of pre european africa and how Things Fall Apart when they arrived...I dont think any Author of note has written about anything/place without getting first hand knowledge of the thing/place and I suggest you do so...thanks+ Mr Okoye Chukwudi Charles from Nigeria.

This is marvelous. I could envision it all very well. I have never been to Africa, but have a friend over there. Well, did, we had been talking for 8 months and then he disappeared, haven't heard from him in 3 months. I am so sad. But I will bookmark this so that I can help out with writing something or whatever I can do. Bravo, for you, helping out with such great wonders.

Well, Africa is far much more interesting than you think and what you have seen on TV and read in books, magazines and newspapers, and different nations in African countries have their own cultures. Many of them who are of the same background are very heterogeneous in their ways of living. Why not plan a trip and come over to different areas for different experiences, you may have a wonderful time. Nice take on Africa imaginatively seen through other eyes.
