Displaced from their homes,
families and hungry children
keep walking away
from their own towns and cities;
with nowhere to go
with nothing to eat
but waiting for bread
or any food, they fall asleep;
what is their fate
what is their tomorrow
will the sun shine again over them
the way it shone yesterday?
As war keeps raging
calmness keeps diminishing,
tranquility keeps falling asunder;
harmony keeps disappearing like a tornado
devastation and destruction keeps aggravating;
panic and pain keeps increasing;
worries and anxieties
keep rushing in the eyes of the elders;
tears keep falling from the cheeks
of the little children
war makes so many feel weak and helpless
war makes so many injuries and deaths
yet war never stops its velocity.
And as each day deprives rest and sleep,
each explosion provides no place
to sit in solitude and think;
no zest and zeal lasts within
as everywhere is turmoil of war
as everywhere is debris and dust.
And as soldiers keep moving
in open jeeps and in open trucks
with guns in hands or bombs in tanks,
fears keep rising day after day
creating tension and trauma so vivid.
The Afghan people thus keep asking -
who will rescue us
who will get our country freed?
There is no answer to this
neither a language to explain it
as war like a virus
so spiteful and vibrant
that as days keep advancing
more and more cities get captured
without any respite or any resolve
without any concern for life or the injured.
And as war keeps continuing its fury
families keep running away as refugees;
some wait back and face the tragedy
and no one knows when the war will end
or where it will lead.
But every Afghan still keeps asking:
O' Brothers of the World,
where have you all lost your shoulders
of courage and strength?
how long will we stand here
and face this torture alone
against so many of them?
how long and how far will we run
when this is our country and our hope,
when this is our land and our future?
So help us to live here
and survive here like true Afghans,
like true children of this soil;
our birthright is our legacy;
so world, where are you hiding now
when all the promises you made
were to all the nations
that unitedly we will fight any enemy
to maintain world peace and harmony?
Now is this the humanity you show
or is this a catastrophe which no man,
no nation want to confront,
no leader or President want to stop this war
as this is a disaster which is destroying our nation?
Or please tell us why have we must abandon our land
why we must be refugees in another country
and get disconnected
from our own families
from our own brothers and sisters
from our own friends and neighbors;
Or why should we lurch in the corridors
of other countries as refugees
when our birthplace is here in Afghanistan
and today it must not be our mass grave?
