Advice For Guitarists Poem by John Carter Brown

Advice For Guitarists

Advice for guitarists

The good old quarter inch jack-plug,
(and he's a splendid thing to me)
just loves the quarter inch socket
for without it where would he be?

The two were made for each other
of that there can be little doubt
once seated the plug wouldn't dream of
ever being pulled or yanked out

They fit in a most perfect union
harmonious as you can get
delivering electrical frequencies
but never allowed to get wet

for if they were ever to do so
an electrical short would occur
the jig would be up, a shock would be had
and the signal would never transfer

And if you are not soundly grounded
the worst could befall you my friend
so check out your plugs and your sockets
to be sure that the signal will send

Don't ruin the happy connection
where the signal will happily flow
don't pull or yank on your cables
or the show will be over, I know

I'm guilty of making this error myself
with a quarter inch socket and jack
and I know from simple experience
what a terrible punch it can pack

So what can we learn from this poem
what, that will help or assist?
Let your roadie set up, it's just safer
for you to cease and desist.
