I'm not sure what to make of this poem. It seems to be more than one poem. The first passage presents a kind of Stoic resolve to accept the hardships of life. And the skeletons nod, but they're passed the need for stoicism being dead. The monsignor then refers to devils stalking - skeletons? When he says the devils will face the closed door I don't know if they are being kept out or if the Monsignor expects the skeletons to let them in? I'm puzzled by this poem. It certainly conveys a chilling mood.
