When the spent sun throws up its rays on cloud
And goes down burning into the gulf below,
No voice in nature is heard to cry aloud
At what has happened. Birds, at least must know

In two editions of Frost’s work that have this poem (West-Running Brook,1936, Henry Holt and Company, and Frost, Collected Poems, Prose, & Plays,1995, Library of America) , line 13 is “Let the night be too dark for me to see...” Not one bee.

Time to rest, and sleep on it. Tomorrow is a new day. The birds know. Thank you, PH, for posting Robert Frost's poem as Poem of the Day!

Very nice poem on evening and fall of night. Beautifully crafted and makes a great reading. Loved it. 'At most he thinks or twitters softly, 'Safe! Now let the night be dark for all of me. Let the night bee too dark for me to see Into the future. Let what will be, be.''... is very nice and interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Always a pleasure to read poems by Frost like this excellent sonnet. I wonder why the word 'bee' in the first line of the final couplet?

When Nature closes her eyes as the day is done, the evening then night comes as it must be. This natural cyclus must be done and the day will turn into night, Only Robert Frost wrote this lovely poem in his own way, sheer poetry! I love this very much, simple but poetic. We are happiest that he added another loading in poetry. I have enjoyed every word, so loveliest said and beautifullt worded. Thank you so much!

The elegant cyclus of the day can only be recited by Frost all green, fresh and grey will all soon turn in moss. CONGRATULATIONS to the family of Robert Frost for this Modern Poem Of The Day. Hurray! May Robert rest in peace.
