Very profound poem. A beautiful idea expressed in lovely imagery. The reader is taken to a dream-like world. Midnight, a walk along the sea shore..it has a pleasant impact. And sandcastles as a metaphor for life, dreams n happiness...a great idea. Just like sandcastle they are often illusory. Loved it.
You are correct Nosheen, they are indeed illusory. Any person that has walked along the shore under the moonlight is aware of the mystic feeling that overpowers, couple that with a person troubled and this feeling is amplified.
A very interesting and well written piece. The wonderful imagery at the start was a counterpoint to the commentary at the end
Thanks Kelly, castles made of sand were never meant to stand. We need to build dreams on stronger foundations.
Your poem is striking Edmund. The last stanza is especially poetic and conveys the strong emotions of the speaker. The violent act of kicking down the already crumbling sandcastle you've encountered all alone on a lonely beach is captivating. Yes, you are right...dreams can't be sustained in sandcastles built on the beach next to crashing waves and a lonely, troubled, visitor. Love this one...almost as much as the swan on the ice poem.
