A World Unmanned Poem by Mary Champion

A World Unmanned

2020

Under a cloudless evening sky -
as the moon casts its wan light -
a dog fox patrols the suburban street.
The haunting hoot of an owl
invades the silence.
There is a rustle of scurrying
as nervous prey sense the danger.
Mankind is safely imprisoned
in a cage of his own making -
terrorised by a microscopic fragment of life.
Now all they have to fear
is each other.
