A World In Turmoil Poem by Mary Champion

A World In Turmoil

Whichever way we look the world's on fire
civilization is coming off the rails.
We see, the cruel triumph of the liar,
when might is right and only greed prevails.
And what should be our pinnacle achievement,
the knowledge gained, the distance we have come
means little in the face of such bereavement -
the clash of swords, the beating of the drum.
Our limp attempts to seek out a solution,
do nothing to eradicate the flames.
The smoking ruins of our lost illusions
deride our struggle, mock our lofty aims.
Helplessly and hopelessly uncertain
we await the final falling of the curtain.
