Yes, Kostas. Poets are like herons answering a distant call. I wish that our ears will never be dulled so as to always hear this call no matter how distant. I hope you can speak of the language of crickets always, :)
As a peace symbol, the white heron symbolizes humans' decency (purity) . In this poem, the heron is someone fragile and trusting, forced to take sanctuary in someone's abode to pass the night, and discovers unusual kindness. In this life, we need to take chances, and what started as mere convenience could turn out into something surprisingly beautiful. This is a poem on the good side of humanity, which is unselfish and compassionate.
