A Voice At Crossroads Poem by Adookorn Auaduma

A Voice At Crossroads

named after grandpa
my name is adookorn
literally means cock

a voice at crossroads

the symbol of truce
atonement for errors
cockcrow at dawn

heraldic songs at noon
announcer at eventide
screech owl at night

weep the pale look of truce
sagging hands of hunger
elephantine foot of weight

sing dawning rays of sun
wading moon in starlit night
whisper of breeze in the tree

beast of burden --
porter of cardinal weight
donkey on bee-busy path

termite left without queen and king
meander frustrated wood
poise to eat up hard wood

lone reed in billowy sea
bow, kneel, lay my life
kiss the palm of death

a mongoose
in the territory of venomous snake
my survival, a tale of chance!
