A Very Gracious Goodbye Poem by Shirley Harrison

A Very Gracious Goodbye

Do not weep for me
let your heart not feel sorrow
for my life
now faded into yesterday
with no more tomorrow

wish me well
as it is I, who will weep
it is I who will feel the loss
without touch or a vision of your smile

achievement, of all that I wished for
is the greatest pair of shoes
I could have ever worn
and I wore them well

and now as I amble from day to day
into eternity
forever knowing

I no longer leave footprints

I know you still think of me

and I will sleep well.
