Teachers are always a venerable sort,
Happy that I belong to that ‘special’ lot,

newer insights gleaned,

I don’t know where I presently stand, Nor do I know how my students rate me, Though often floundered or failed to act, In the manner I ever so longed to do, I would rather be a TEACHER all my life, A ‘guru’ out and out, from hilt to heel! .........stunning expression with outstanding conceptualization. A brilliant poem on Teacher or Guru is amazingly presented here. thanks for sharing.

I was taught to respect my teachers. I know it is the Guru who help us to tread all the way to God. Nice

During the time of my school days my Sar told me don't call him as a teacher, Ladies must be call as Teacher My father always transfer to here and there, there all are teacher with atoms of knowledge pooled, Brightening their paths - with millions of lanterns lit, Rowing them away - from the perilous shoals of life, And leading them to be anchored here this poetess call again as a Guru

My wife was a teacher so I am a bit biased! I'm not sure I agree with the last two lines of the first verse. Having said that, this is a very fine poem indeed and you are right to be proud of your profession. It is an extremely well thought out piece of work and, despite that bslight reservation, it is a clear ten from me. you may go to the top of the class, teacher. Tom Bill

To add to Thomas's comment also; yes yes yes to all of this, but also down to one, me. There were times in my life when I had no one except a teacher. The positive changes began from their guidance. Teach one life, you save many. I am proof. I love teachers. The good ones are angels and not valued near enough. And usually give so much of themselves in many ways but remain unseen by the majority. The heroes in my writing are teachers. May God bless them forever and always.

The scriptures placed the Guru on par with God.'Aacharya devo bhava'. In the real sense a teacher acts like a mother, father, friend and a doctor. You expressed all these in a captivating way. thanks for sharing.

It is a fine pouring of innocent mind.Gu karamandhakaram thaan/Ru karam than rodhitha [Gu syllable means darkness and Ru means blocking/checking that darkness(ignorance) . If teachers have done so confidently, then he/she can be satisfied. I give 10/10

I belong to that ‘special’ lot. You gave a beautiful account of Teachers' view point on Teachers' Day. Teachers are only happy when their students succeed later and reach higher levels. I feel good to be a teacher myself. Thank you for a beautiful poem.

my son posted this poem on his face book.i like to repost here There is nothing, Like being a FRIEND. There is nothing, Like being a WELL WISHER. There is nothing, Like being a GUIDE. There is nothing, Like being a MENTOR. There is nothing, Like being a PILLAR of STRENGTH. There is nothing, Like being an INSPIRATION. There is nothing, Like being a MOTIVATION. There is nothing, Like being a ROLE MODEL. There is nothing, Like being FAMOUS. There is nothing, Like being a TEACHER. - Uresh Rai happy teacher's day to all my teachers and a big thanx to all my students for making me a better person. U never know your contribution towards the making of a 'good' teacher.
