There once was an old man by the stream,
fishing away in a peaceful dream,
when he heard a voice he couldn't place,
and turned to see a frog on the case.
'Pick me up and give me a kiss,
and you'll see a beautiful miss, '
The frog promised, with a voice so sweet,
but the man ignored and cast a discreet.
Once again the frog implored,
'I'll marry you and keep you adored,
all your friends will be filled with envy, '
but the man shrugged, and said 'that's plenty.'
'For you're good for me just the way you are,
a talking frog is better than a nagging wife by far, '
he placed the frog back in his pocket with care,
and went back to fishing, without a single care.
So the frog remained as a talking friend,
a true companion, until the very end,
the man continued to fish, with a smile on his face,
enjoying the company of his dear froggy mate.
I, Bri, also have (at least) one froggy poem on PH. It's in a 'bog', I believe. ;)
Five stars For Fisherman and Frog story. But this story sounds familiar, as if I'd heard it years ago. Maybe the poet also wrote it during a prevous life? ? ? Hmm? bri : )
It was a LITTLE disappointing to not find a rhyme at the last two lines. I DO like good rhyming and this poem's rhymes made the poem more enjoyable for me. BUT I don't say a poet should RHYME all the TIME, oh NO! !
I esp. like stanza 4, ...BUT its wording seems to imply that the fisherman already knew the frog before setting down his case, and that the frog had been in the pocket once already., two things unmentioned earlier in the poem.
A talking friend is better than a nagging by far' great experience of the old man.Nice song, enjoyed it. My question is what would u do if get such a frog?
Hilarious poem. Of late you have chosen some different topics to write, I m enjoying.
