Her eyes now perpetually wet
With veins like the furrows on her face
Red and painfully earned
Crows feet framed by worry

This sounds like a tribute to a woman's strength who goes through a lot in life but if she maintains her dignity, she looks beautiful even in old age. Days of life roll by, leaving us all scarred but scars are beautiful if they speak of our struggles and our survival. A lovely write.

edmund, as usual because of your skill and your direct approach, i relate to and like this other kind of beauty you describe. and with you i respect and marvel at what some people endure- endure with dignity not bitterness. this poem is well-titled i think. a string of days within a short truce is a resonant phrase. glen

What a beautiful poem indeed. You've captured everything in few lines of the mental complexities that have been endured in this woman life. Yet she is still beautiful. Even more so than most

What a beautiful tribute! ! ! We get a sense of someone who lives with deep pain or grief of some kind and yet carries it with elegance and dignity. We too remain in silent reverence and we wonder about her life's journey. Her strength and graciousness in the midst of suffering inspires us all. Thank you Edmund

A beautiful Ode to a beautiful but struggling woman as seen through the speakers lens. With love and gentle care, you unfold her layers and her story. We don't know why, but we know. Well written. Thanks for sharing.

I think it is a thing of beauty itself this sadness carried with painful grace. I sometimes hesitate to send such a poem. Wondering instead if I should stick to something more in keeping with my carefree state of mind. I have my own sad stories. Heart breakingly so but I know enough to appreciate that others have suffered and suffer even worse and yet somehow bear it.
