This is a charming and well written tribute to the US Coast Guard, an often overlooked branch of our military service, yet one that perhaps contributes more to the safety and welfare of the people of this nation than any other. They are on duty 24 hours a day, every day, whether at peace or in war, and they protect our shores as well as boaters and even swimmers, let alone run down drug smugglers and those trying to illegally enter our country by boat. Your words were indeed a warm and beautiful tribute to the men and women of our Coast Guard. Carl.

Shantol, When I met my husband he was stationed in Montauk New York.The Coast Guard slogan at that time was It's a small with a big job to do.My husband served his country for 26 years and we moved around a lot.I wrote this poem when we were stationed in Oregon in the 1980s.
