A Slow Fly Poem by soren Barrett

A Slow Fly

I'll tell you a tale of stupidity, born out of avidity, it goes back a while
Andy was dumb, since he first sucked his thumb, but he always made people smile
As he grew old his deeds became bold, landing him in the county jail
Speak'n ta me, he said ya see, ta learn somtin ya gotta fail

Thinkin one night, I gota idea real bright, 'twold make me a rich man
Dat bank got more money than bees got honey, so I hatched me a plan
Tain't no sin ta take what's within, ya can't steal from a thief
I'll jus cut in, to da money bin, ma visit will be short an brief

So I measured da back wall, how long an tall, ta know where laid da vault
I'd do it at night, no one to fight, nobody ta hurt in da assault
Got me a torch, an some coveralls so wouldn't scorch ma shirt or pants
Waited fer dark, on da wall made ma mark, an da sparks began ta dance

Thought I'd get through in an hour or two, but sun was raisin' when da plate fell
Popped in ma head, but was in da lobby instead, jus unlockin da front door da guard did yell
Stop e said, back out the hole I fled, bullets chasin after me
Ran fast as I could to a field in da wood, ducked down behind a tree

Waited fer an hour or two, thought dey was through, got up ta walk back home
Walked by da bank, cloths dirty of burnt stank, police thick as teeth on a comb
A gentleman in blue yelled hey you, what are you doing here?
Knowin not what ta say, jus said good day, commin back from havin ma morin beer

With burt holes in ma cloths, dirty hands smutty nose dey hauled me away
Bein dumb's not a crime, but I'm doin ma time fer wanten to be rich one day
Only the dumb go to jail the rest get out on bail or never get caught
No different than the rest, we all do our best, it's the slow flies dat ya swat
