A Sisyphean Life Poem by Mary Champion

A Sisyphean Life

Every morning he awakes refreshed,
squares his shoulders determined to survive.
Inspirited by the bright light of day
he progresses a few uncertain yards.

Throughout his life he has struggled like this
and yet he comes no nearer to his goal.
For every day is burdened with night*
and the darkness reverses all his gains.
