A Sister Poem by Patricia Denise Newman

A Sister

What is a sister. That other part of you?
Someone who watches as you grow
And hears all you say or do
That very special person, the one who you will know
Will always be there for you,
no matter where you go.
She's someone who will argue and quarrel for a while
But will be there to comfort when things go wrong
Who will laugh with you and smile
There is no other person who will know and understand
How your mind and inner thoughts work
Ready with a helping hand
Other members of the family that come into your life
Cannot replace a sister, be they husband, child or wife
The loss of this special person is very hard to bear
Part of you is now missing. Part of you no longer there.

Siblings are precious. My wife used to have eight sisters, but three of them have now passed away. All were younger than she is.
