I promised myself to get down some day
And see the way you lived, but I don't know!

3) The poem reads stream-ofconsciousness: The monologue rattles on as the talkative woman veers from subject to subject. When the poem opens, the woman is expressing gratitude for the man having camped on the land. She seems to be making excuses

'There's nothing but a voice-like left inside That seems to tell me how I ought to feel, And would feel if I wasn't all gone wrong.' - A kind of feeling that we all experience at times, perhaps! Glad to see this poem chosen as the 'Modern Poem of the Day'!

I memorized this poem and performed it in my English Poetry Class in 1970. I got a standing ovation and an A for it. I have never forgotten that poem. And, I never will. Robert Frost was my favorite of all time.
