I wonder if the face gave away those deeply hidden ill emotions too, for the grasping of which the poets are so famous. That is what makes this poem great in its brevity.

Just like a formula in mathematics with lot of hidden elaboration. A great classic, ideal of brevity.

Much is said about some mean old man in just a line.

If he knew about the haiku form of poetry this could have been arranged as one..

This is not a good selection from P B Shalley's vast repository.

I could only imagine how frightening that moment was.... but after all this poem leaves a reader with a lot to think about. It's mind and thought provoking
