A Rising Star Poem by Wilfred Mellers

A Rising Star

To my niece 1980 - 2007
A Rising Star

Today, a rising star's light has been extinguished in the heavens. For twenty-seven years, that light shined brightly in the world. For the past two months, we knew you would soon be gone, but it could not be prevented. A swift wind blew out the flame of your candle. No longer will your beauty gleam among the celestial bodies. Though your time with us was brief, your spirit will never be forgotten. You have departed on your journey to the hereafter, joining our ancestors. May they embrace you in their loving arms and welcome you home.

It is a strange time for us to say goodbye, but none can predict when they will be called home. We have no choice but to answer that call. We wish you well, and we look forward to the day we meet again, for energy cannot be destroyed.

We will cherish your laughter and joy as we reminisce about the good times we shared. You will be deeply missed. Our thoughts, hearts, and prayers are with your parents. God bless you, Enia Douglas Mellers. Farewell, and may your journey be peaceful. Rest in peace in God's presence...
