A Rainy Day In Florida Poem by Deanna Samuels

A Rainy Day In Florida

No, it wasn't a quick sudden heavy shower
which often happens in Florida.
Clouds gathered overnight,
the sky became a thick blanket of grey.
As dawn broke, the first rain drops fell
as splotches the size of large coins
then broke into a steady downpour
falling upon the ground,
breaking into riverlets of rushing water
collecting dust and dirt
from roads and paths
reaching street drains,
swirling and forming eddies
before plunging down
into the dark unknown.

The steady heavy rain continued all morn
through the noontime and into the eve.

The activities of theme parks and
attractions became debatable,
attended only by the brave
getting drenched to the skin
but enjoying every moment,
and even singing in the rain
as no line-ups to sustain.
Many steered towards the Malls
to keep dry and pick up bargains
while others, in anticipation, veered
towards the numerous indoor attractions
to keep both adults and children happy
on this very rainy day in Florida.
