A Quiver Tree Poem by Camagu Somana

A Quiver Tree

Rating: 4.5

Quietly standing alone
Surrounded by hot stones
In a lonely and dry desert
Yes! I am a quiver tree in a desert indeed

I stand tall
Tall despite the hot sunny days - I don't fall
I store meat and water for my friend Bushmen
But he doesn't want anybody to know that

I am old
I am 80 years old
A day for me to fall is near
When that day comes always remember my deeds

The day is near, the tree has lived for more that 60 years...
