A sad story based on injustice and cheating has been so touchingly and incisively delineated. Beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing.10

Another good write Hazel. A sad tale but these examples of selfishness and greed seem to be cropping up all too often in this day and age.

Very sad story, it happens in our society too. I have seen a few movies with this theme. Sacrifices and fatigues were ignored. The law of inheritance played its role. A question remains, are we made for the laws or the laws are made for us! ...............10

Hello Hazel You take us so deeply and completely inside the very essence of this man's being that there is no space in the poem for anyone but him, he looms in our imagination even before we know the cause of his grievance. What a grievous wrong was committed and yet he must resign himself. A lesser man would get fiercely angry, maybe resort to violence, or grow bitter and diminished with time. HE IS ALREADY PLANNING HIS OWN RESCUE. Perhaps his years of solitary toil have given the patience that fills natural things. Or perhaps the physical strength his life of hard work has achieved has become moral strength as well. There is no guarantee that the body and the soul will develop in tandem but I believe that is exactly what has happened here. His exterior self equals his interior self, his being is a complete whole. There's not a trace of falseness or guile this man. He will prevail!

A poem is read in many ways like what message it carries style of writing etc. Here i can see the magic of words. Sing to an easier tune, He will become immune, To the lifelong lie, As he looks up at the black sky, Hazel is the name of poetess who is fully drowned over emotions and pace of her emotions are more vibrant. Thanks for share

A Beautiful poem with great message. It's sad he toiled his whole life and was assured of inheriting the farm. Finally when will was read he was just left with a few acres and house. This is one fact of life, where many people have been cheated. But the best part in this poem is to let it go off and forget it and be happy with whatever the little has been left with him. I loved the you presented it. Loved reading it.

Sadly this sort of behaviour is not unprecedented. It happened to a lady not so long ago. the court awarded her everything, after all she'd put her whole life into the farm. An enjoyable read Well done.

.. trusting someone for the promise that thry make. then when you get cheated... the pain that follows from the broken promise is way too much.. the pain is beautifully expressed in your poem...

Rich in images and brilliant in rendering this poem reminds most of us of the true life of many a labouring person who paves the way for his siblings. I have seen many fathers who toiled till the eve of their lives only to find themselves desperately thrown out of the extended joys their hard earned wealth or material possessions could actually have given them! Let this disillusioned and worn out man seek shelter in stoic philosophy or as Valsa madam has said it, let him be contented with what he is left with, Hazel. A poem that deserves a 10.

Indeed, it is very pathetic for one to struggle all the days of his life trying to leave a mark..only to be robbed of what will wipe his tears away..... another intriguing theme from a great poet.....great job madam!

When one is cheated of his inheritance, it is natural for him to feel resentment and a sense of despair! But overcoming it with positive thoughts and feeling contented with what he has got is the best way to move into light! Harbouring resentment for long will only kill his peace of mind and rob him of his sleep! A beautiful poem with a great message!
