Thoroughly enjoyed the craft of this one. It dares the reader to ignore it but I think you pulled it off with aplomb. The reasons for this are that the 'prince' within the narrative can be viewed as being metaphorical. The repeat of 'memory', lest one forgets, is also interesting...the protagonist's attachment to it, as if it defines something of value or/ and hints that something important happened that the narratee should not have forgotten or has 'conveniently' forgotten. There is also a note of intent sounded by the protagonist at the end...this is a new beginning, something to 'remember'.
