NEW YEAR'S EVE
Midnight has passed a new year has begun,
And in this darkened arbour now we wait, no moon no sun,
Listening to the stillness of a new day that's just been born.
Waiting for the revelation of the bright lit morn.
On this midsummer night we share anticipation,
Ignoring the past year's successes and moments of consolation.
Looking forward beyond the vast horizon
We raise our hearts in hope for that which is to come.
Stand close and contemplate the offers of a new year,
The joys and sorrows, the smiles and even tears.
In bold unbridled pleasure drink now the wine that lifts your spirit up
And know the feasted satisfaction of an overflowing cup.
Surrender to the forest's soft caress under bright stars that abound.
Let the trees embrace you now, enfolding all around.
Take in the perfume of the garden flowers and the foods that sustain life.
Enjoy the company of friends, your husband or someone else's wife.
And while you now consider the meaning of your life,
Give some time to this vexed question without creating strife.
Why is it that we search each day for a single meaning,
And then each night we find a way to peace by simply dreaming?
But now behold what fowl in yonder window wakes
To crow at dawn and herald in the new-year's morn?
So let there be song and dance, revelry and rousing.
Kiss your love in fond embrace a new year is now hatching.
And lo beyond the window breaks a silver light
To cast a spell across the night.
Is that the moon I see before me gleaming?
The spell is cast we've had the best of evenings.
So one and all now celebrate our unique habitation
Join friends and neighbours in this New Year's celebration.
Look forward now with purpose, confidence hope and expectation.
And don't forget to take your medication.
