A Plea To The Self-Righteous Poem by Richard Wlodarski

A Plea To The Self-Righteous

Rating: 5.0

Unbelievable
So damn surreal
Non-doctors non-nurses
Ordinary people
A stream of white face masks
Just one not wearing one
Stranger in such strange land
The only one not conforming
Not because I am a rebel
Not 'cause I'm uncomfortable
Just 'cause I am afraid to die
History of breathing problems
I don't want to damn suffocate
I respect life more than you think
I respect your life and my life
So please just give me some damn space

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Some people can't wear face masks for medical reasons. I've tried and almost suffocated. I'm taking all the necessary precautions to protect others and myself against this dreaded Coronavirus. And yet, there are those self-righteous few who choose to give me a hard time.
As much as I'm against doctors' notes, I believe that's the only way to solve this dilemma.

A very legitimate position. The problem is with administrative machinery. They don't want to budge an inch. This is a tricky situation weighing high on those with special health problems. There is lack of sensitivity which can be seen everywhere.
