A Plea Poem by Meng Lim Dr

A Plea

Rating: 5.0

[ I would rather ]

I would rather
you don't say
you love me
without knowing
what I am-
how would
you know
I'm not a sham?

watch me
like a little plant
how I grow-
I might whither
half-way
and leave you
in bereft sorrow

don't give yourself
too easily away
giving exacts
a heavy price
many abandoned lovers
would readily say

love is a heart-breaker
if you are wise, delay
until the dawning
of that blessed day
when the bud
has fully bloomed
leaving doubt
no room
to fester

then only then
give your heart away

I can wait
only that
you don't hurry

come then
in unblemished faith
love will shine
and you can
safely say:
you are mine!
