A Piece of Mom's Heart
A True Story
While going through a stressful time—
one of the toughest I have known,
I grabbed Mom's worn-out Bible, where
it lay closed and alone.
As I thumbed through its pages
like so many times before,
I cried out with a heavy heart,
'Father, I can't take much more! '
It was to Mom's Bible I would turn
in times of heartache, or grief.
In it I'd find the answer
to bring my soul relief.
Tidbits of wisdom seemed to fit
what I was going through,
Like little pieces of Mom's heart
That God would lead me to.
I was turning through the pages
In search of hope once more,
When a small handwritten note fell out
and feathered to the floor.
I reached and clutched it tightly.
What I saw there made me smile:
A little poem, handwritten,
in Mom's distinctive style.
I doubt she was the author,
but as I read each line,
I knew that finding it that day
was God's unmistakable sign.
I found His peace in those words
For they gave my spirit rest.
The burden instantly lifted,
My heart was truly blessed.
I prayed again and thanked the Lord,
for the poem I found on that day:
A little piece of Mom's heart
she had saved along the way.
'You Will Never Walk Alone'—the poem
I'd like to share with you.
I pray that God will use these words
to bring you blessings too:
I said, 'The path is steep.'
He said, 'I'm at your side.'
I said, 'But I am weak.'
He said, 'For you I died.'
I said, 'Dark valleys come.'
He said, 'I will guide you through.'
I said, 'But I'm not brave.'
He said, 'I will walk with you.'
He said, 'You'll never,
never walk alone.'
I said, 'Be the Light to me,
and strength as I go on.'
He said, 'I'm more. I'm Love.
You never walk alone.'
Since then, I've read it often,
for it's so plain to see:
It's a little piece of Mom's heart
that she had left for me.
In Honor of Deloris Keaton.

Author's note: This poem was based on true events in the life of a dear sister in Christ. I have not been able to identify the author of the poem, 'You Will Never Walk Alone.' It is my prayer that my words will be a blessing to all who read. Loyd
