I tried to hold a piece of love
Within my trembling hand
I tried to clasp it oh so tight
But it was just like sand
It quickly trickled through my grasp
And slid away from me
Then falling softly to the ground
It wanted to be free
How could I keep this precious thing
Not let it slip away
It seems it would not be confined
And did not want to stay
Am I too worn and weary now
To own such tender care
I deem I'll never know again
Such love, or ever share
The joys that it would bring to me
If in my hand it stayed
Yet sadly it just slips away
And leaves me so dismayed
I tried to hold a piece of love
To keep it safe and warm
I know that if it hung around
My world it would transform
But love is such a fleeting thing
It leaves the heart bereft
When gone, it disappears from sight
With only sorrow left
