Very, very well written Jemarie. You have taken a classic theme and made it uniquely your own. An easy 10.
You present a tantalizing picture of the situation. Unfortunately some of us behave according to the way we think and others according to the way they feel and most, I guess, with a little of both. We are all different, and the difference is what we can appreciate. The choice of pebble is interesting. Recently I read a story and the main character collected pebbles from the river and gave them as gifts.
Many years ago I was given a recipe for soup The first ingredient to put in your stockpot was a pebble and then whatever you had to hand. I asked about the pebble and was told that was to fix in my mind how easy it was to feed you family If you tried For some reason that stuk and your poem refreshed the memory. Dreams we have and dreams we need but the pebble represents reality

Even that humble little pebble That you hold in your hands Is no less than the work of sparkling stars This we must understand A work of volcanic fury perhaps Several millions years ago That shaped its elegant design Is something that we must know....
