this poem is hard to understanding for me; but the last couplet - " Why is the woman terror-struck? Can there be mercy in that look? " - it's quite expressive and thought provoking where reader's mind will think and roam to get the roots of this poem again and again;

The basic concern raising simple doubts in day today life beautifully versified. A great classic poem crafted by the master craftsman.

I wish I could understand this poem a little better. It raises many questions and creates symbolic unusual answers but all answers seem ambiguous and short lived to relieve the terror of life.

" Why is the woman terror struck? Can there be mercy in that look? Meaningful questions raised in soliloquy in form of poetic expression.
