This seeing extends from a bond having qualities that are rare in the human experience. Its involvement is highly charged. The speaker in the poem clearly expresses the choices, and moreover is aware she has choice. The moment left behind, undisturbed, no risk. Or to overcome her doubts and participate. At which, what is real layers into what is real, a deep texture in the poem. Touching eye-to-eye could become a love to heal a thousand years of wounds; but, the poem infers, also not likely something with a place in her life in the world, that she can show her friends at the bar, or bring home to her mother.
