A Million Times Three Poem by Wilfred Mellers

A Million Times Three

A Million Times Three
Written: Wilfred Mellers, June 11,2015

I would give the world if it were mine to give.
I would share my last meal so you could live.
You are the dove, and I am the worrisome swan;
My sacrifice is supreme so that you can go on.

As I watch you grow stronger each day,
I would do anything for you to live longer in every way.
I will be with you, no matter the weather;
I will support you in whatever endeavor.

Whatever it takes for you to flourish,
My life's bread will serve to nourish.
I have tried to meet your every need;
All I ever wanted was for you to succeed.

I have never left you during your adolescence;
To my existence, you are the essence.
Though I cannot shelter you from the cold,
I will stand by you, even as you grow old.

As the world gets smaller, you grow taller;
You are spectacular in any vernacular.
From the highest mountaintop, I would shout even louder;
Of you, I couldn't be prouder.

In this life, nothing is guaranteed;
There will be obstacles to impede.
Remember to always do a good deed;
Never succumb to foolish greed.

Always choose kindness, not violence instead;
Do not take on others' burdens in your head.
Many tears for you I have shed;
So many unspoken words still need to be said.

As my life fades, yours has begun;
From your first steps until you learn how to run.
For everything you are and everything you will ever be,
For life and beyond, I will always love you a million times three.
