A Lover's Thoughts Poem by Amar Agarwala

A Lover's Thoughts

The moon shines forth in splendour bright
Soothing with its majestic sight,
And I pine ever more
For my beloved who is dear
Who stays afar and is not near,
Like she did once before.

The silvery twilight bathes me
As if it is some fervent plea,
That I mutely reminisce
Moments of togetherness lost
At threshold of love we had crossed
That I now sorely miss.

Will see again her lovely face
When I will be through with life's race,
But in another guise
For I know she awaits me there
Tidying up our restful lair
That lies in paradise.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
CONFUCIUS
Kong Qui, better known as Confucius, was born in 551 B.C. in the Lu state of China (near present-day Qufu) . His teachings, preserved in the Analects, focused on creating ethical models of family and public interaction, and setting educational standards. He died in 479 B.C. Confucianism later became the official imperial philosophy of China, and was extremely was an influential Chinese philosopher, teacher and political figure known for his popular aphorisms and for his models of social interaction.
I had know this about him, but had not the faintest inkling that he wrote poetry. Until I found a few on the website of - PoemHunter, a which I regularly visit. Was pleasantly surprised, to see it translated into English and what a beautiful poetry, written more than 2500 years ago. The poem which inspired me to write this one is titled - A Love Song by Confucius. You will find it on this site.
