A Lover's Tale Poem by Diwakar Bhatt

A Lover's Tale

Rating: 4.5

A young man I was just in my late teens,
Real decent and handsome by all means.

Next door to mine lived a beautiful girl,
Comely face exuded the hue of a pearl.

I found her always in a world of her own,
No way to make her attention being drawn.

Downcast eyes under the dark thick lashes,
Seldom meeting of our eyes created flashes.

Her innocence pierced my heart very deep,
Swear to god that many times lost my sleep.

Used to watch her from somewhere in hiding,
Afraid I was much of her unexpected chiding.

Worshiped her with tender love as an idolater,
Goddess of love enshrined in my heart forever.

Time went by as months and years many flew,
Flame of my secret love never died rather grew.

Mute admirer I was unable to speak a word,
Our social ethos never let me move forward.

Got a job in other town where I was to settle,
Small get together was arranged for a farewell.

Being close neighbors, she came to say goodbyes
Wished in her sweet voice looking into my eyes.

Heart felt an excitement of a lifetime not to allay,
Embarrassed by her way, so bohemian for the day.

With enigmatic smile and raunchy disposition,
New avatar of Venus she was to entice any human.

Came to me while all were busy in the merriment,
Held my hand unabashedly, I didn’t new the intent.

Took me to the roof top before anything I could do,
Caught me by my collar and kissed me without ado.

Snuggled in my bosom, unending was the rapture,
Albeit she wanted all the joyful moments to capture.

Awestruck I was for that unimaginable windfall
Tender mercies of her heart I could receive after all.

Her lotus eyes looked up and in words of her choice,
Expressed her long cherished love in eloquent voice.

Tears were on the verge to fall from her watery eyes,
Veracity I could sense from her words as a man wise.

Wiped her tearful eyes and told her the plight of lover,
How naïve I was who could never take a step further.

My relocation was a blessing in disguise to be true,
Not one but two lovers found love forever to brew.

Happiest soul on earth I thought myself at that time,
Fortunate to get her love I always craved to be mine.
