Reconciling with one's past is a conscious effort that cannot be replaced by any amount of success. The reconciling is the success. I find the world looks quite the same from a dirty alley or a fancy living room when I am at peace with who I am. Without his tragic beginnings I doubt he could have become so dependent on the piano. A great example of making your own choices in spite of your situation. He could of chose to do a ton of less productive things than playing piano. Provo! !
