A Life Poem by Deanna Samuels

A Life

A life comes
a life goes

A long life for some
a short life for others

It is not known
what has been inscribed
when one comes from the womb
and takes that first breath

It is what is done with that life
while that life is within,
was it worthwhile
was it a strain
were meritorious deeds made
or was there too much vain?

Each life makes a mark
on the time spent on earth.
It is how it is spent
perhaps luck or hard work

Live each day
even though maybe sad
as joy may come
with the morrow

This is what life is
this is our fate

A life comes
a life goes
