A Letter Gone Astray Poem by Ellen Ni Bheachain

A Letter Gone Astray

Once I did take the time out,
And sit and write a letter once,
That once upon a time back then,
Early 1989 to be exact,
The letter that went astray,

I sat and thought about it for a time,
Then the pen and paper did the rest,
I wrote you a letter to let you know,
I had to leave and go home,
I left the letter by your bedside,

As you lay sleeping or so it seemed,
Yet, knowing in truth was an induced coma then,
It has been so long now since 1988 -89,
Now,2021, I can remember that time better now,
And hope today you are doing well,
And getting on with life,
And doing well,

I wrote down in the letter as I wanted you to know,
How much I loved you,
And always will,
For back in 1988 -89,
You did for me that no one else had done,
Believed in me and what was going on,
So, when all that happened,
You were there for me,

Something I will never forget,
For there is much I do not remember from back then,
My memory of 1988-1989 are clips of memories,
But one thing is true,
Chuck Jones (Dave) leaves no one behind,
And its thanks to you,
I am here today,
In 2021 writing this down,
My second letter to you,
How are you, Dave?
